"Back To Source, Soul & Self" Anusara® Yoga Retreat in Thailand.
1st-8th March, 2021This is going to be special. This is going to be very special indeed ... prepare for a breath taking experience. Utterly off the grid, deep within a conservation area of the Thai jungle. This yoga retreat is truly one where you can get back to source, listen to your soul a while and reconnect to yourself what is truly important in your life.
Where else in the world do you kayak to yoga class or step out of your front door to dive straight off your balcony for a swim? Deep in the unparalleled natural beauty of Thailand’s Koh Sok National Park, we will have a full week together to expand and explore all aspects of your Anusara® yoga practice - pranayama, asana (Hatha and Restorative) and meditation. We will practice to the musical sound track of the jungle around us and pure fresh water lake below us - an utterly unique experience! I'm thrilled and honoured to have been given the chance to lead this retreat - believe me this exceptional Jungle Yoga Retreat is not easy to book! We are really lucky to be able to travel to this magical place and for just a week live a simple, uncluttered and easeful life. Come back to our natural body rhythms of rising with the sun and sleeping early and peacefully with it too. Get back to listening to our inner voice, our hearts desires and starting to plan about making authentic shifts back in our 'real lives'. |

Be still and listen awhile
Jungle Yoga is highly remote, peaceful and completely off-grid. I doubt there is any resort else where on the planet that is this deeply immersed in nature. What's more is our group will have the retreat space completely to ourselves, so kick back and relax, no-one is going to disturb you!
Deep in one of the last primary rainforests on the planet, our entire accommodation floats on the fresh water lake. It is simple, eco-friendly and totally tranquil. There is no WiFi, no phone signal and limited electricity leaving you to truly be still, relax and tune-in to yourself. The whole resort is a floating paradise ... your jungalow room, the yoga shala, restaurant and little shop are all linked by a floating walkway. There is nothing quite like practicing yoga in an open shala - I used to teach like this for 10 years. As you move feel the Thai warmth on your skin, breath deeper than ever before as you move and hear the sounds of the jungle right beside us. You will find you just absorb the stilling energy of nature without even really trying, it just sucks you in! And after a 2 hour practice here you are guaranteed the sweetest savasana ever!

Deep in the Primary Rainforest ...
|
The sanctuary offers sensational lake and cliff vistas, primary rainforest, and extraordinary wildlife. You may notice the following:
• Hornbills—Great Hornbills, Helmeted Hornbills, Bushy Crested Hornbills, Wreathed Hornbills , White Crowned Hornbills, and Oriental-pied Hornbills. • Gibbon—the smallest of the ape family; they sing in the mornings as the mist rises, I'm told its pretty hard to actually see them (not impossible) but you will hear them for sure! • Tigers—supposedly live near, but they have only heard at the resort once—and you can sleep easy as they have never been visiting! • Monkeys—4 different types: long tailed macaques, stumped tail (pig tailed) macaques, dusky and spectacled langurs. • Wild boar, Tapir, Serow and Malayan sun bears—exciting to spot them in the wild. • Elephants—not easy to find, but their tracks are plentiful. They come to the lake on a seasonal basis to drink, swim and scratch their bellies on the shores of the lake. • Birds—Eagles, Osprey, Oriental hobby, White headed fish Eagle, Buffy fish Owl, Rufous Piculet, Verditer Flycatcher, White Rumped Shama, Sultan Tit Bulbul, huge variety of Kingfishers, Broadbills, White Egrets, Heron, Jungle Fowl, Coucals, Plaintive Cuckoo and many types of Woodpeckers ... and many more. •Krating Daeng—red bull and Gaur – wild buffalo. •Otter Many of these birds and animals are endangered and they know it…that’s why it is difficult to find them. Bring your binoculars. |
THAILAND - the land of smiles
Thailand is quite simply magical. From the crazy hustle and bustle of Bangkok, to the tranquility of the temples countywide, to the chilled and pristine beaches of Phuket there is always something to turn your head and take your breath away!
You won't have to look far for a welcoming face, quickly followed by the top of a bowing head quietly welcoming you with a deep bow. The Thai people are sincere, quiet and gentle, and genuinely thrilled to open their arms and doors to tourists, almost child-like in their enthusiasm to show you their culture and country! We will be heading to the conservation jungle area in Southern Thailand, most easily accessed via Bangkok. If you possibly can I highly recommend travelling and exploring further, before or after out retreat and discovering more about Thailands enchanting culture, and its people. |
The Yoga ...
Through our daily Anusara® yoga practice, together on this retreat I will be recounting stories and telling you of the Mahadevas - that's the whole array of the Hindu goddesses.
Hear how these women each have unique characters and attributes. Amongst them are homely, domestic goddesses, there are brave hearted heroines, bountiful beauties and quiet bookworms - as you listen to their inspiring stories you will begin to realise that you in fact every character and can learn from every myth. These stories are extremely poetic, meaningful and packed full of wise words that can make us really stop and ponder on ourselves, search for our traits and learn from these wise goddesses. I will encourage you to journal your thoughts and feelings after class and during the whole retreat and really dig deep into listening to your soul. We will also try different meditation techniques, so that you can find one that best suits you and that you will be able to apply back home. We will delve into 2 inspiring yoga practices every day - an energising practice in the morning before breakfast, and a restorative & meditative, nourishing practice in the evening as the sun goes down. |
Travelling to Koh Sok National Park
The best airport to fly into is Bangkok, and from Bangkok International Airport (BKK) the flight to Surat Thani (URT) is 1 hour. This must be booked and paid for seperately.
From here on in the transport is organised and paid for you already. From Surat Thani airport, we will travel as a group in a transfer vehicle(s) waiting for us to the Wildlife Sanctuary National Park Headquarter. This is about an hours drive, and from here we transfer to boats at the pier.
NATIONAL PARK FEE: At the boat pier each person must sign in and pay 300 baht per person for permission to enter the park - this is at your cost.
Then we take the last leg of our adventurous journey with a 30 minute boat ride across the phenomenal lake to reach Praiwan Raft House.

Delicious and Nutritious Food
Wan and Dacho and their staff will be looking after us during our stay. They pride themselves in providing guests with rich memories of their travels in Thailand, and delicious, nutritious food. They oversee the preparation of all the delicious meals and snacks prepared with an abundance of flavors and healthy, fresh ingredients. This venue is well known by Thais and foreigners as “the most delicious food on the Lake.”
Dacho grew up in this primary rainforest and has a vast knowledge of the animals, plants and the surrounding wild life. At an extra cost Dacho can take you out on a kayak or walking animal trek. Absolutely no problem in catering for your dietary requirements as long as we know up front! Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free can be catered for with ease. Please get in touch directly with Sarah about any other requests. The food is fabulous! |
Looking after ourselves and the planet as we travel
This retreat will be strictly no smoking. The resort bungalows, shala and restaurant are all very strictly no smoking and the whole resort is a floating wooden structure. This makes the place vulnerable to fire and hence I have taken the decision to make the whole retreat non-smoking. Please be aware of this before you come, and if your think this is going to be a challenge for you, it may not be the retreat for you.
We cannot take under 16's and it is highly advisable that you are a good, confident swimmer. I would like to ensure that we "Leave nothing but footprints, and take nothing but photographs & memories" from this pristine jungle. So let's all do our bit as we travel to and from the retreat and especially in our time transferring through Bangkok. Here's some ideas for how you can contribute ...
These are great habits to develop! Please love the planet. |
