Spread all the wonderful benefits you have experienced to others? Or maybe you are simply curious about yoga and are keen to know more about it's history and philosophy? Whether this is a journey purely for you and your self growth, or one to benefit others, this comprehensive course has it all covered! Yoga History and Philosophy
Learn about the roots of this ancient, spiritual practice. When and where did it all begin? What does it have to do with my practice today? This ancient system will be bought to life as we trace a history timeline together and you hear the powerful stories from the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana and a plethora of other mythical tales. We will also take a look at Patanjali and ponder on why it is that this text, and other classical texts, seem to influence other styles of yoga so heavily.
|
History and Philosophy of Anusara Yoga
Understand how Anusara fits into the overall picture of yoga history, and how it has adopted a more accepting, life enhancing form of the ancient yoga philosophies. Learn how another layer of philosophical thinking makes the teachings come to life, and makes them so much more vibrant and applicable to our modern day lives!
|
Asana Study and Universal Principles of Alignment (UPAs)
The UPAs are a crucial part of this training, and you will learn the apply this clear, succinct and beautiful system from day one.
We will also hone in on a key group of 70 yoga poses, covering all pose categories. Get to know the exact alignment, benefits, variations, remediations and how to instruct a student into each one. You will also look at common misalignments students make and how you can help. |
Pranayama and Meditation
During the Immersions you will get to practice a variety of pranayama and meditation techniques for yourself. By becoming familiar using them, you will better understand the different benefits and energies each brings. In the Teacher Training modules you will learn how to sequence them in to class, how to teach them to your students and which technique is suitable when, and why.
|
Physical Body Anatomy & Physiology
We will take a detailed look at the human body and get familiar with all the major bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. We will recruit the services of my assistant "Skinny Steve" to look at how they all work together, and what can go wrong if they don't.
We then apply the theory and see how each body has a unique blueprint, and how using the Anusara UPAs, can help to keep your students safe, healthy and pain free. |
Subtle Body Anatomy
Looking at the body from an Eastern viewpoint is fascinating, and it is wonderful to learn how modern medicine is finally catching up! From nadis, to koshers, to chakras and kundalini we will dive into the subtle body and learn how body, mind and spirit really are intimately connected.
You will learn how to teach a Yoga Nidra and Restorative class. |
Mantra, Chanting, Bandha and Mudra
This course is full of yoga gems! You will discover what a mudra is (it's not just funny faces) and all about the three bandhas.
You will learn the reason why we often chant mantra in class, why it so good for us, and the science behind just why it feels so good to sing out loud in a the shower! You will have the chance to find your unique voice and vibration too, as well as learn how to create a skilful playlist for your classes. |
Teaching Methodology
Did you know that we all learn in different ways? Consequently there are many different ways to teach skills to students - verbal, visual, through touch, via demonstration, using props, and so much more.
Learn how to handle tricky students, unplanned situations all with confidence and grace! |
Sequencing Strategies
There are numerous ways to sequence a safe yet powerful yoga class. We will focus initially on a 'basic template', but also move on to look at how you can get creative whilst staying safe. I have templates and ideas that I will share with you, that will keep you developing well structured and interesting classes for years to come!
|
Creating and Using Class Themes
An uplifting, motivating theme or message is a key part of the Anusara system, and it's why many of your students fall in love with it!
From using one word/idea, to a short inspirational quote, to a verse of of poetry, through to an elaborate myth or fable, there are so many ways this can be done. We will study some stories, create our own messages and learn how to skilfully begin to weave these into class, so that every class you teach speaks to the heart. |
Observing, Assisting and Adjusting
This course will create great yoga TEACHERS, not just a 'pose guides'. I will teach you how to truly to SEE you students, notice and observe if your instructions are 'landing' with them and being felt. If not, we need to up level! Adjust your language, or show them a clear demonstration, or offer an assist, perhaps a support or maybe even an adjustment.
|
Practice Teaching
You will get plenty of opportunity to start practicing your teaching skills during this course! Initially you will start teaching fellow students 1:1 and then in small groups of 3 or 4. You will then progress to teach your family or friends (or line up your teddy bear collection and teach them!) as homework between modules. You will get supportive, constructive feedback to apply to the next round of teaching, and in no time at all you will feel your skill set grow and confidence sky rocket!
By the time you teach your exam classes, you will be teaching a whole room of students! |
The Business of Yoga & Ethical Guidelines
Setting out on your own as a Yoga Teacher can feel a little daunting. But never fear! I even have some lectures to help you get set up, start marketing yourself on social media ethically, and get some great marketing photos. Once you realise there is nothing 'yucky' about promoting your yoga teaching (after all you are offering health, wellness and healing to the world!) this is much easier than at first it might appear.
|
Exams and Assessments
You will be required to teach two exam classes - one Hatha and one Restorative (these will both be video recorded for your eyes only! Watching and listening to yourself is such a valuable learning tool!)
There will also be assessments along the way, and right at the end of the training. For the full low down on all the requirements to graduate successfully, please scroll down to the dedicated "Course Assessment" section. |

Kirsty Hayward, Guildford, UK (TT2018/99) |
"Sarah is an experienced and passionate yoga teacher, who is knowledgeable, spiritual and a skilled story teller and this reflects in the TT. The course is structured, comprehensive and meticulously planned and delivered. It's challenging but accessible, as Sarah supports students through the immersions, making sure that they have the tools necessary to develop and succeed. Not only has my practice, and understanding (of philosophy, anatomy and physiology in particular) deepened, I feel that I now have the skills not just to teach, but to teach safely and well. The course covered everything that that you would expect, would want and more! I will be forever grateful for the supported (by peers & Sarah) opportunity to progress on my journey of yoga discovery! .
|
"Sarah's Teacher Training was extremely well planned and delivered. Sarah has an infectious and enthusiastic personality and a broad, rich knowledge of yoga. I deeply valued the first 100 hours Anusara® Immersion element – learning the philosophy of yoga and the Anusara® teachings as well as anatomy and physiology. It also helped me develop my own practice of asanas, pranayama and meditation. The second 100 hours were focused on becoming a teacher of yoga. In these 6 months the highs were meeting a great group of yogis on the same path to becoming a teacher. I had so much fun. My confidence grew in becoming open to possibilities in how I can make this yoga teacher training work for me."

Jo Atkins, Epsom, Surrey, UK (TT2018/9) |
Ana Nazir, Singapore (TT2016/7) |
"My 200 hour TT with Sarah gave me a thorough understanding of how to teach and sequence a yoga class and prepared me for the challenges of teaching. The TT also gave me a solid overview of anatomy and the limbs, history and philosophy of yoga. My objective in taking the course was to understand yoga asana sufficiently to practice yoga by myself without a teacher. The course gave me that and, under Sarah's determined guidance, I have also been teaching yoga for the last 2 and half years. Since finishing my first TT with Sarah I have completed close to a further 500 hours of training with many different experienced teachers and I am yet to come across information that wasn't at least touched upon in my first TT with Sarah. Sarah's TT was the perfect start to my teaching career and I will not hesitate to take further trainings with Sarah when we are on the same continent again!"

Fiona Foggin, Newcastle, UK"I first started yoga with Sarah many years ago in Singapore. When she announced her Teacher Training back here in UK, I knew it was worth the long car journey down from Newcastle for each module to learn from her!
I went into Sarah's Teacher Training with great trepidation, very nervous and not at all confident in myself. I came out the other end of this amazing process a totally different person! I have gone straight into teaching regular classes, and I'm loving what I'm doing!" |
Shopping trip!
Here link to a short list of recommended reading and course books that you might like to purchase for use during the course (the link will be only active once you have paid for the course). It's also a great idea to have your own yoga mat, bolster, blocks and a strap so that you can practice at home. I particularly love the Liforme mat with its fabulous alignment markings that you will find really handy. Practice, practice
Do ensure you have a regular, well balanced practice steadily going. You don't want the course to be too much of a shock to your system, and a daily practice is a great way to be fully prepared for the adventure ahead! So come to my classes! |
